History
Born in her family's home on H'atoria in 2364, K'Rene has had what might be termed an interesting childhood. Her Grandfather was Klaa, who had fought Kirk (Star Trek V: The Final Frontier), and had later acted as an Interpreter at his trial for the murder of Chancellor Gorkon. After this he became a diplomat, a position he still held when his first grandchild departed for earth. He had married (though whether before or after his Challenge to Kirk is unclear) a native of Raatooras . K'Rene describes her grandmother as been "more Klingon than any Klingon I ever met. "
Her Parents are harder to explain. K'Rene's father served in the Embassy upon Earth, so was absent for most of her childhood. Her mother, Huss, daughter of A'trom, had until her death been a warrior of great note. K'Rene still owns the Order of the Bat'leth that her mother won in 2373. As a result most of K'Rene's childhood was spent either on birds of Prey, or on Klingon colonies. She openly acknowledges that she can still count on one hand, the number of months she has spent on Qo'nos. She had a younger brother A'trom and appears to have enjoyed a resembly normal Klingon childhood.

All this came to an end however when K'Rene was 10. Her Mother was serving on the colony on Krios Prime, when the Romulan's attacked. The whole colony was put to flame, and Huss was killed before her children. All K'Rene will say of this is that "she died well." She and her brother were trapped in their burning home. While both were eventually rescued, A'trom died a few days later due to an infection.

K'Rene's father was on earth at the time, and did not received the news of his mate's death for many months. Instead her grandfather, also mourning the loss of his mate, took responsibility for her. K'Rene spent the next 4 years of her life traveling the galaxy with him. She spent a great deal of time outside the empire, including 6 months on Andora and 3 Months on Vulcan, experiences which she describes as "interesting". In 2375, her father would remarry a Human. Despite been in favor of inter-species marriage, The House of Klaa was enraged by his marriage so soon after his mate's death, and forbade him to have any contact with his daughter. K'Rene is aware that she has a stepbrother, half brother and two nieces and a nephew from this union, but nothing more is known, except that her father died of Cancer in 2383.

When she was 14, it is felt that in preparation for her Age of Ascension K'Rene should spend some more time with her own species. As a result she was sent to live with her Uncle Kurn (no relation to Worf's brother). He was serving on the I.K.S. Rotarran as Weapons Officer, and K'Rene was instructed to assist him. Despite the Horrors she witness there, she was determined to serve in the Defense Force.

She completed her Rite of Ascension and was approved by the Klingon oversight Council to enter the academy, a great Honor. However in her final year, it was arranged for an exchange to occur between Starfleet Academy and the Klingons. Fascinated by this alien culture, but disgusted by the still deep seated prejudices against Klingons, K'Rene followed her dictate that the only way to deal with a problem is to meet it head on and sort permission from her family to attempt the entrance example. She succeeded and was admitted into the Academy. She left in 2384 with flying colors, though she did observe that "when the Klingon ambassador said that there would be no peace while Kirk lived he was mistaken. He should have said there will be no peace while Kirk is remembered."

K'Rene joined the USS Beagle as an Ensign, and following the ship's decomission was assigned to first the USS Chimera and then USS Wyvern, where she achieved the rank of Luitentant Commander. It was also there that she first met Dixon and later Stubbs. She also aquired her first experience of command, serving as the ship's Second Officer and chief of Security.

Unfortunately the poltical situation between the Federation and the Klingons deteriated rapidly. Following a mission that showed the Federation was actively breaking many of the treaties they held with the Federation, K'Rene began to question her role with the Federation. When a half Romulan was placed as first officer, and with the political situation with the Klingons on the verge of war, K'Rene resigned her commission and returned to the Empire.

During the war between Federation and the Empire K'Rene aquitted herself with honour, drawing herself to the attention of her father's old collegeue, Colonel K'mtar. When the war ended and the Outpost Gorkon was established, he offered K'Rene the post of chief of Security. K'Rene accepted and sucessfully held the post against no less than twenty challenges.

When Dixon arrived on the station, he was surprised to see K'Rene again. Impressed by her skill and needing an ally on the Klingon outpost, he offered her a position on his staff, which K'Rene accepted.
